This is a photo of my father circa 1959. In his younger days he was a cook at the local inn. I have been aware of this photo since I was very young, buried in my grandmother’s box of photographs. It was, and still is, one of my favorite photographs of him. This Sunday marks one year since he died. Our relationship was complicated and marked by periods of estrangement, however one thing that bound us, weaved through the fabric of our disparate lives was the joy of cooking. I think that were he alive today, he would be proud.
